BBQ Cooker to Satisfy Our Primal Meat Urges…Gwarrrr

Innovations to the BBQ grill don’t happen very often. I was fortunate enough to experience some great BBQ ribs and chicken from an innovative design. As I began speaking with the cook, and shooting the breeze about grilling styles and techniques, he pointed out how he cooked all this food with very little supervision. I’m thinking, with ribs this soft and moist, and chicken that is fully cooked, moist and isn’t burnt, you have to pay attention! Nope. Just load it and come back in a little while.

So this leads us to the Orion Cooker. Taken from their website:

The Orion Cooker is a new, innovative outdoor convection cooker that uses three cooking processes simultaneously: convection, steam and smoke (if desired). This cooking process couldn’t be any easier and yields incredible results every time. Using 100% indirect heat to create a convection current, there is absolutely no cooking maintenance with drastically reduced cook times. When compared to traditional smokers, the Orion Cooker is unmatched in cooking speed. Smoke six racks of ribs in 1 hour and 15 minutes, or a twenty pound turkey in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The Orion Cooker includes 3 rib hangers to accomodate 6 racks of ribs, 3 cooking grates providing 398 square inches of cooking surface, and a poultry stand and lifting handle which holds a 24 pound Turkey. Fantastic prime rib, beef brisket, boston butt and seafood. Just fill it, fire it and forget it!

I want to point out the beauty of this for health conscious dads is there isn’t direct flames and unwanted smoke from the burning charcoal. You can always add your apple wood or mesquite chips in a little container at the bottom to heat up and give it a nice smoked flavor. The added benefit is you’ll be using less chips to smoke!

You can buy the Orion Cooker at most major hardware stores like Home Depot, Ace, and True Value. Or order it online. The cooker runs about $130.00 on average.
